Hostelling International USA, Golden Gate Council (GGC) and its 10 hostels in Northern California respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. GGC provides this privacy statement to inform you of our privacy policy and of the choices you can make about the way your information is collected online and how that information is used.
Providing visitors with anonymous access. You can access the GGC homepage and browse our Web sites without disclosing your personal data.
Automatic collection of information. GGC does not automatically log personal data nor do we link information automatically logged by other means with personal data about specific individuals. We do not use cookies to store personal data nor do we link non-personal information stored in cookies with personal data about specific individuals.
Data collection and purpose specification. GGC Web sites enable you to communicate with us or to post information to be accessed by our staff. We collect the personal data that you may volunteer while using our services. We do not collect information about our visitors from other sources, such as public records or private organizations. We do not collect or use personal data for any purpose other than membership administration, marketing, and research and development.
Children's privacy. GGC does not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you have reason to believe that a child has provided personal data to GGC, please contact us, and we will delete that information from our databases.

Disclosure and visitor choice. GGC discloses our visitors' personal data to our 10 hostels in Northern California and to the national HI-USA office. Our policy is not to sell or disclose personal data to anyone outside of our organization unless specifically authorized to do so by each individual. We ensure that your personal data will not be disclosed to state or federal authorities except if required by law or other regulation. Where we disclose your personal data for the same purposes as those indicated above, we provide you with the means to opt-out of disclosure by indicating in a box at the point on the site where personal data is collected.
Confidentiality and security. GGC gives you the option of using a secure transmission method to send us the following types of personal data:
- Primary personal data (such as name and contact details).
- Other personal and profiling data (such as physical description, leisure activities).
- Identifiers (such as credit card details, Web site password).
- Specific personal data (such as racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs).
We have implemented security policies, rules and technical measures to protect the personal data that we have under our control from:
- Unauthorized access.
- Improper use or disclosure.
- Unauthorized modification.
- Unlawful destruction or accidental loss.
All our employees and data processors who have access to and are associated with the processing of personal data, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of our visitors' personal data.
Access to the personal data we may hold about you. You can ask GGC whether the organization is keeping personal data about you. After we receive proof of your identity, we will provide you with a free copy of the personal data that we keep about you, within a month. We do not reserve the right to refuse to provide you with a copy of your personal data. We also allow you to challenge the data that we hold about you and, where appropriate, you may have the data erased, amended or completed.
