This hostel is actually two restored buildings at Fort Barry that once served as officers’ quarters. It is a nature lover’s paradise located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area only 15 minutes from San Francisco. Experience the tranquility of Muir Woods, a forest of towering trees and canyon ferns, and the miles of trails near Mt. Tamalpais, an environmental cornucopia that transitions from pastoral meadows to dense forests. Various organizations located near the hostel also offer education programs, such as the California Marine Mammal Center and the Golden Gate Energy Center.

Point Reyes National Seashore is a 70,000-acre geological “island in time,” (30,000 acres are designated wilderness). HI-Point Reyes, a renovated ranch house and separate bunkhouse, is located in one of the National Park’s secluded valleys and is surrounded by 140 miles of trails and a diverse habitat that includes sandy and rocky beaches; salt and fresh water marsh; riparian, coastal prairie and scrub; and dense forests.

This charming 1908 pioneer homestead is situated on the edge of the forest and the ocean where a mosaic of habitats intersect: Woodlands, underbrush, waterways and wildlife. The National Park Service and California State Parks collaborate to preserve Redwood National Park so its majestic redwood ecosystem and natural resources remain for future generations to explore. The park has been designated a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve.
