Movies at Pigeon Point

Feel like relaxing after a long day of hiking along the coast? Stop in to the Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel's fog signal building for an evening flick with your fellow hostellers. 

Films are presented on Blu-ray on the hostel's new high-definition flat screen TV, and range from family-friendly favorites to timely documentaries. Movies filmed at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse are also thrown into the mix.

Sacramento International Film Festival Free Preview

The Sacramento International Film Festival (SFF) offers programming and events for "film enthusiasts of all economic, cultural and educational backgrounds."

With the support of a passionate arts community, SFF aims to attract the best filmmakers, industry guests, and thousands of film enthusiasts from around the world.

This year's free preview event includes three programs with three short films each. At 1 p.m. see "Future Visionaries," at 2:30 p.m. is "Cine Latino" from the Sacramento Latino Film Festival, and at 4 p.m. see "Environmental Visions Part I: Shorts."

Pottery Sale and Art Exhibition at Clay Creations

Stop by Pacifica's Clay Creations on Friday for a free evening art exhibition featuring live music and refreshments from 7-10 p.m., or swing through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. for a pottery sale.

Clay Creations offers adult and kid's classes in wheel throwing, hand building, clay sculpture, and mosaics, and hosts regular exhibitions and events at their Pacifica studio.

Swing and Salsa Dancing

On the first and third Tuesdays each month January 18 through the end of May, join a drop-in swing and salsa dance class at the Dance Palace Community Center!

The classes, taught by Carol Friedman, focus on understanding rhythm and techniques and following simple movements –- perfect for a beginning dancer, a rainy day, or a cheap excuse to get some exercise.

Marine Mammal Bio-Acoustics and Ocean Noise Lecture

In this free public lecture -- part of a speaker series at the Bay Model -- bio-acoustician Michael Stocker will explore bio-acoustic modalities (using sound/sonar to get around).

He'll also share his work in marine research and policy, which is focused on the impacts of human-generated noise on the marine habitat.
