International Folk Dance Party

On January 3, the Dance Palace Community Center in Point Reyes Station hosts a dance party featuring folk music from around the globe.

Learn how to dance to traditional folk favorites from Bulgaria, Rumania, Serbia, Turkey, Israel, and more, with dance instructor Carol Friedman.

Nature Exploration of Devil's Gulch

Join a Marin County Parks docent on family-friendly hike to explore Devil's Gulch in Samuel Taylor State Park, near Point Reyes Station.

This small creek is a great place to look at the many animals that live in fresh, rushing water. The tour may continue up the trail to Stairstep Falls, or just wander back into the main canyon.

Embarcadero Center

The Embarcadero Center’s building lighting is "going green" for its 27th annual lighting ceremony. This year, the exterior building is being illuminated with 17,000 two-watt bulbs using cold cathode technology, rather than the traditional 15-watt bulbs. The lighting ceremony is followed by an ice show, fireworks display, and Winter Carnival at the Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center.

Market Street Lighting Ceremony

For the first time in 103 years, San Francisco’s Market Street will be lit for the holiday season. Five-foot-wide energy-saving LED illuminated snowflakes decorate a portion of Market Street’s signature "Path of Gold" light poles (originally installed in 1916) between Second and Fifth streets, through January 2009. A lighting ceremony is scheduled for November 18 near the cable car turn-around at Powell and Market.

"Up the Creek" Salmon Hike

Join Open Space Ranger Gabe Ngarangad on a moderately strenuous one mile hike into the San Geronimo Valley in the Point Reyes National Seashore to discuss steelhead and coho salmon.

Learn about watershed quality, lifecycles, and the interesting natural history of salmon species native to Marin.
