Call for Entries: “Discover the World” Essay Contest for Girl Scouts
Posted by admin on Nov 7, 2008

Deadline to enter: March 1, 2009.
In 2009, Hostelling International USA will celebrate 100 years of the hostelling movement worldwide and 75 years here in the United States.
In honor of these special milestones, HI-USA is asking the Girl Scouts to help them celebrate, with the "Discover the World" Essay Contest.
If you’re an active, American Girl Scout age 12-17, HI-USA wants to hear about your hostelling experience.
Whether it was through a getaway at a local hostel, an HI special program, or a troop trip abroad, tell HI-USA how hostelling has helped you gain a greater understanding of the world and its people.
Or, if you’re still new to hostelling, share how hostelling could help you gain a greater understanding of the world and its people, were you given the opportunity to stay at a hostel.
Entries will be judged by an HI-USA-appointed panel, and three prize packages will be awarded:
- 1st Place: Three-night stay for up to four people at a participating HI-USA hostel of the winner’s choice, plus roundtrip airfare on American Airlines.
- 2nd Place: Flip video camera.
- 3rd Place: HI-USA goodie bag, including window clings, table flag, patches, luggage tag, and water bottle.
All entrants receive a free HI-USA Youth Membership for Girl Scouts.
Essays must be 500 words or less and received by March 1, 2009. One entry per person. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter.
