HI-San Diego hosts peace building conference, March 7-9
February 19, 2008

In March, the San Diego Council of Hostelling International USA hosts "Peace-ing Communities Together," a peace building conference for young adults ages 18-29. Held at the House of Pacific Relations and International Cottages in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park, the conference includes workshops, panel discussions with local leaders, and other events designed to teach participants how to become involved with peace building efforts in their communities. Specific workshop topics include cross-cultural communication, understanding the world through travel, grassroots action, and conflict mediation in the day-to-day.
The conference also includes a Saturday evening banquet with a keynote address from Dr. Joyce Neu, Executive Director of the Joan Kroc Institute of Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego. Sunday morning there will be an Opportunities Fair where participants can learn how to get involved in peace building efforts with San Diego-based nonprofit organizations, and help create a Community Walls mural though the UN Association Art Miles Project.
