Gear up for HI-San Diego's Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride, August 3

Late-night biking with a group of friends sounds pretty awesome by itself. But doing it for a great cause? Even better.

HI-San Diego's 40th Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride happens August 3, and promises costumes, decorated bicycles, contests, food, and entertainment, all in support of community youth programs.

The 17-mile route is mostly flat, and runs along some of the city's most beautiful waterfront and historic areas.

On-site registration is $40 and starts at 9 p.m. at Liberty Station on Crushing Drive in San Diego; register in advance and save $5. Kids are $20 with advance registration. The festival (along with games, music, and food) begins at 9 p.m., and the ride itself kicks off at midnight.
