HI USA takes travel seriously. So seriously in fact that along with offering enlightening hostelling experiences across America, our non-profit organization is also dedicated to spreading the joy of seeing the world. That’s why we run several signature programs for hostel guests and community members both young and young at heart who would like to open their souls to creating a better understanding of people, places and cultures through travel and doing good.
One of the thrills of travel is that excited flutter you get when your plane is about to land, or when you round a corner and are met with the delight of seeing something wonderful and new. It’s the thing that makes travelling so addictive, and it’s one reason why hostel: there are more chances to experience something new when you’re staying at the kinds of unique lodgings HI USA offers across the country.
HI USA’s IOU Respect program aims to break barriers by gathering a diverse group of young individuals for a two-week cultural exchange program. Participants come from six countries – the US, Egypt, France, Germany, Lebanon and Tunisia – and travel to two cities where they take part in facilitated dialogue sessions, team-building project work and group outings and activities.
HI USA believes travel should be accessible to everyone, and one way we’re helping make this possible is through the Explore the World scholarship. Eighty-one $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to individuals who are keen to venture overseas on an educational or service learning journey. If you’re interested in taking a trip to deepen your understanding of people, places, and cultures, this scholarship might be for you.
One thing that all HI USA hostels have in common is that they strive to be good to the Earth and minimize the impact that traveling may have on the environment. From HI Boston in the East all the way to HI Point Montara on the West Coast, our hostels try to be as sustainable and green as possible, so you can keep seeing the world with a clean conscious!
