Local residents and hostel guests are invited to join HI-Marin Headlands on September 30 for the 13th annual National Public Lands Day. This one-day labor of love is the largest annual coast-to-coast, single-day volunteer restoration effort for the country’s public lands, giving Americans across the nation the chance to give back to all of the places they use to hike, bike, climb, swim, explore, picnic, or just plain unwind.
Some San Francisco kids have never been out of their inner-city neighborhoods, let alone on a beach. This summer, a pilot partnership between the City of San Francisco's Latchkey Program and the Hostel Adventure Program of HI-USA Golden Gate Council brought 200 urban youth out of the noise and concrete of the city to the rolling hills and dramatic coastline of the Marin Headlands for a day of environmental education.
