We're happy to announce that Muni, San Francisco's public transit system, has doubled their bus service to the Marin Headlands! The Muni 76X Marin Headlands now runs on Saturdays and Sundays, in addition to the following holidays: January 1, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
The 76X replaces the 76 line, which ran only on Sundays. This new, 24-month pilot program enables visitors to stay overnight in the Headlands and have a ride back to the city the next day. The newly christened 76X has a Facebook fan page (it is the newer, hipper version of the 76, after all). Like the page to follow all of the updates about the pilot program -- hopefully with enough support and feedback the service will be permanently extended!
The 76X drops you off at the Marin Headlands Visitor Center, less than a quarter-mile from the Marin Headlands Hostel. For just $2 one-way, a quick weekend getaway is now a total steal! And (as if this ride could get any sweeter) Muni is actively encouraging all hostellers, bikers, and hikers to bring their outdoor gear on the bus.
So book your stay, spend your weekend exploring beaches, hiking trails, and bike paths -- and discover the amazing coastal National Park in San Francisco's backyard.
The northbound 76X bus runs hourly from 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and special holidays, while the southbound bus runs hourly from 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
From the city, catch the 76X at the Powell and Sutter stop, just 3 blocks from the San Francisco Downtown Hostel, or at the Leavenworth and Sutter stop, 6 blocks from the San Francisco City Center Hostel. For guests staying at the San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf Hostel, catch the 76X at the Union and Van Ness stop, which is about 0.8 miles from the hostel. For more information about the new 76X line, including full details of all the stops and service hours, check the Muni website.
Stay at the Marin Headlands Hostel and take advantage of extended weekend bus service, brought to you by Muni!
