HI-USA Golden Gate Council is proud to debut two new travel education workshops this March, "The Free and Independent Gay Traveler" and "Women Traveling Solo."

Free and open to all, both workshops provide information for budget travelers on research, packing, safety and health, itinerary planning, meeting locals and other travelers, cultural sensitivity, and more, as well as specific information helpful to LGBT and solo female adventurers.

The Free and Independent Gay Traveler
Monday, March 2, 5:30 - 6:45 p.m.
LGBT Community Center
1800 Market Street, San Francisco

This workshop is for gay, lesbian, and bisexual travelers of all ages who are planning to travel by themselves and are wondering if it’s safe and preferable to look beyond the usual gay cruise lines and group tours. We will discuss how to add more value and independence to solo travel adventures, while still working within the boundaries often imposed on gay/bisexual travelers in a world that isn’t always hospitable to the queer lifestyle. Women Traveling Solo
Tuesday, March 3, 5:30 - 6:45 p.m.
The Women’s Building
3543 18th Street, San Francisco

This workshop is for women of all ages who are planning to travel by themselves for the first time. Hear firsthand advice on traveling in foreign countries, independently and on a budget, with a focus on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by solo women travelers. Read more.

These workshops are presented during Travel Education Week (February 28 - March 8) , a nationwide series celebrating the 100th anniversary of Hostelling International and the 75th anniversary of Hostelling International USA.

More anniversary events and activities are coming soon, so subscribe to our monthly e-newsletter, Hostel Tripper, for updates on upcoming celebrations!
