Women Traveling Solo

This free Travel 101 workshop is for women of all ages who are planning to travel by themselves for the first time, or who are looking for smart tips on how to add more value and independence to their solo travel adventures.

Hear firsthand advice about the benefits and challenges of traveling solo, and get tips on research, packing, safety and health, itinerary planning, meeting locals and travelers, cultural sensitivity, and more. The focus will be on traveling in foreign countries, independently and on a budget.

This workshop is presented during Travel Education Week, a nationwide series celebrating the 100th anniversary of Hostelling International and the 75th anniversary of Hostelling International USA.

Presenters

Molly Mitoma is the Marketing & Communications Manager for HI-USA Golden Gate Council. Aside from Canada and Mexico, her first foreign trip was a Eurail backpacking adventure through Italy, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, and Scotland. Since then, she has traveled with friends in Peru and Ecuador, Egypt and Tunisia, and Nicaragua, and has made solo trips to Thailand and Malaysia, Israel/Palestine and Jordan, South Africa, Morocco and Senegal, and most recently China.

Sofia Qureshi is the Educational Programs Coordinator for HI-USA Golden Gate Council. She has been traveling internationally since age six, spending summers in Europe and Pakistan, and later lived and worked in London, England, and Lahore, Pakistan. With family and friends she has traveled to Belize, China and Hong Kong, Turkey, Ireland, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Greece, and has driven, hitchhiked, and backpacked across the USA, hostelling, camping in our beautiful National Parks, and WWOOFing. She has traveled solo in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, and the UAE. Solo or not, she plans on visiting Mexico this summer.

Lindsay Carver is the Community Walls Intern for HI-USA Golden Gate Council. She started traveling internationally as a teenager. Her first big trip was to central Europe: Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, and the UK. After college she spent three months in Western Africa, volunteering in Tanzania and traveling to Uganda and Kenya. Later she made a five-month solo trip, WWOOFing in Ireland and Spain, and making her way to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Morocco, and Greece. She has also been to Mexico, Belize, Fiji, and New Zealand. Most recently she visited Guatemala and southern Mexico.
