Get an up-close glimpse of U.S history on the first Saturday of the month at the Nike Missile launch site in the Marin Headlands. Veterans, park rangers and volunteers share interesting tidbits and tell fascinating stories of the areas around the base, and of the tension during the Cold War that led to the building of the site, which was intended to protect people from a Soviet attack. This is the only restored Nike missile site in the country, and hearing from the volunteers who lead the open house brings the days of the Cold War to life.
Do note that the open house and storytelling are cancelled during rainy weather, so if you’re unsure, contact the Marin Headlands Visitor Center.
